Adventist Church in the Southern Asia-Pacific Appeals for Prayers and Support for Families Affected by Recent Calamities in the Philippines

In the span of just two weeks, the Philippines has endured a series of devastating calamities—severe typhoons followed by a powerful 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Cebu. The tragedies have left many families grieving the loss of loved ones, while thousands more have lost homes and livelihoods.

In response, the Seventh-day Adventist Church across the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD) has expressed its deep sympathy and solidarity with the affected communities. “We grieve with you in this time of great trial, and we want you to know that you are not alone. The Adventist church across the Southern Asia-Pacific Division stands with you,” said SSD President Pastor Roger Caderma.

The church, through the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), Adventist Community Services (ACS), and its network of organizations and institutions, has been working closely with government agencies to provide immediate assistance. Relief teams are on the ground, helping deliver food, water, temporary shelter, medical support, and emotional care to survivors.

“This partnership reflects our mission to serve in the spirit of Christ—to be His hands and feet in times of great need,” Pastor Caderma emphasized.

Even as relief efforts continue, the church offers a message of spiritual encouragement. “In moments when the ground shakes beneath us and storms overwhelm us, we are reminded of the unshakable refuge we have in God,” Pastor Caderma said, citing Psalm 46:1: ‘God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.’

Pastor Caderma also issued an appeal for prayers and acts of compassion across the division. “We invite all our members to unite in prayer for our brothers and sisters who have been displaced and are enduring hardship. Let us ask God for comfort, healing, and provision. And beyond our prayers, let us also extend our hands—through donations, through acts of service, and through compassion. Every gesture of kindness is a testimony of God’s love.”

ADRA Philippines has made available official donation channels to support ongoing response efforts. Members and supporters are encouraged to scan the QR code or check ADRA’s official platforms for ways to send contributions. “Every gift, no matter how small, makes a difference in bringing hope to those who are suffering,” Pastor Caderma added.
