A group of Seventh-day Adventist medical professionals in Jakarta, Indonesia, provided free health screenings and medical consultations on Oct. 24, 2026, as part of a community outreach initiative aimed at improving access to basic health services and encouraging preventive health care.
Organized by the Jakarta Adventist Doctors Association (Ikatan Dokter Advent Jakarta, or IDAJ), the event carried the theme "Healing Together, Growing in Faith" and took place at the association's secretariat office in the Adventist Meeting Building along MT Haryono Street in Jakarta.
The initiative brought together physicians, dentists and medical students who volunteered their time and expertise to provide health assessments and guidance to residents, particularly those living near the venue.
Approximately 50 people registered for the program, which offered free screenings for blood glucose, cholesterol and uric acid levels, along with weight assessments and individual medical consultations.
Participants received guidance from health professionals who helped them better understand their screening results and the importance of monitoring potential health risks.
The medical team included pediatrician Dr. Tumpal Rajagukguk, clinical nutrition specialist Dr. Larry Tumalun, internal medicine specialist Dr. Aji Soko Santoso, dentist Dr. Michelle Wongkar and Dr. Kevin Saputra, along with several medical students who assisted throughout the program.
To make the services accessible, organizers distributed registration information three days before the event, allowing residents to sign up through a QR code. Walk-in participants were also accommodated, extending the opportunity to those who had not registered in advance.
Beyond providing medical assessments, the initiative emphasized the value of preventive health care and informed lifestyle choices. Through personal consultations, participants had opportunities to discuss health concerns, ask questions and receive professional advice on maintaining their well-being.
The program reflects the Seventh-day Adventist Church's longstanding emphasis on whole-person health, which recognizes the connection between physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being. Through health education and community service, Adventist medical professionals seek to make preventive care more accessible while encouraging individuals and families to take an active role in protecting their health.
Organizers said they hope the initiative will strengthen community awareness of healthy living and encourage more residents to seek appropriate medical guidance before health concerns become more serious.
To sustain the outreach, IDAJ plans to conduct another free health screening at the same location next month, alongside its fellowship worship gathering.
The continuing initiative reflects the association's commitment to using medical expertise in service to the community, demonstrating how practical health care, compassion and volunteerism can contribute to healthier and more connected communities.
