A weeklong outreach initiative that combined community development, family enrichment, health education, and spiritual instruction concluded in Samar province on June 20, resulting in the baptism of 41 individuals.
The program, held in Barangay Majacob from June 14 to 20, brought together local government agencies, community leaders, and members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in a collaborative effort to address both practical and spiritual needs. Attendance reached approximately 160 residents each afternoon throughout the week.
The outreach was conducted in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Kabuhayan 2026 initiative, which incorporates the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) graduation approach. The program provides training in entrepreneurship, small business management, healthy living, and values formation to help communities strengthen their economic resilience and improve their quality of life.
Bible workers, local care groups, and volunteers from the 1,000 Missionary Movement helped prepare the community ahead of the event through visitation efforts, Bible studies, and relationship-building activities. Their outreach helped lay the foundation for the weeklong program and strengthened connections with residents throughout the area.
As part of the initiative, participants attended a series of presentations focused on family relationships, personal development, health, and faith. The spiritual component, themed “Moral Recovery Program through Happy Family and Hope Seminar,” emphasized biblical principles for building strong families and communities.
The program was coordinated through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the municipality of Tarangnan, reflecting a shared commitment between government agencies and faith-based organizations to support community development.
The opening program featured health and wellness presentations, while daily sessions throughout the week combined health education with messages of hope and encouragement. Bible workers, local care groups, and volunteers conducted community visits and follow-up activities before and during the event, helping connect residents with available services and spiritual resources.
Despite intermittent rain showers that created transportation challenges for some attendees from neighboring villages, organizers continued outreach efforts throughout the week.
The initiative culminated in a baptismal ceremony in which 41 individuals publicly expressed their commitment to follow Jesus Christ. The service was officiated by Pastor Daniel Taripe, executive secretary of the Adventist Church in Samar (SM), and Pastor Randie Igloso, the mission’s youth and Sabbath School director.
Church leaders described the outreach as an example of holistic ministry, combining community development, health education, family enrichment, and spiritual nurture. The partnership brought together local government agencies, church members, and community volunteers to address practical needs while sharing the message of hope found in Jesus Christ.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Pastor Elizer Barlizo, president of the Adventist Church in East Central Philippines (ECPUC) emphasized the importance of working together in mission.
“It is so overwhelming to see how the church leaders and members unite. Let’s unite further in more prayers, that God may always be in our midst, holding us closer in one voice and one mission,” he said. “Heaven is rejoicing for the 41 precious children of God who have accepted Jesus as their personal Savior.”
Local church leaders said the initiative demonstrated how government agencies and faith-based organizations can complement one another in serving communities.
“The event was highly successful and fulfilling as the government and church united in community outreach,” said Pastor Elnar John P. Ochavillo, district pastor in the said town. “We were able to teach the community what they need, from creating strong and happy relationships to helping them with livelihood means and knowing Jesus as the Great Provider, Savior, and Friend.”
The collaboration carries particular significance in Samar, one of the Philippine regions most frequently affected by typhoons and severe weather disturbances. Many families depend primarily on farming and fishing for their livelihood, making them especially vulnerable when storms damage crops, fishing equipment, and other sources of income.
Local leaders said programs that combine livelihood development, values formation, and spiritual nurture can help communities build resilience in the face of recurring challenges. By providing opportunities for skills development alongside biblical instruction on stewardship, faith, and responsible living, the initiative sought to encourage participants to pursue both economic stability and spiritual growth.
Organizers expressed appreciation for the support of local churches, volunteers, government partners, and community members whose combined efforts made the outreach possible. They emphasized that the event’s lasting impact would be measured not only by attendance or participation, but by transformed lives and strengthened communities inspired to move forward with hope and purpose.
