Phetchareun: God Will Give Us Victory

Phetchareun: God Will Give Us Victory

On the second day of the Southern Asia-Pacific Division Year-End Meeting, Pastor Khamsay Phetchareun, Director of Global Missions at the Center for East Asian Religion (CEAR), took the lead during the morning devotional. He brought the delegates' focus to the divine mandate of the mission, encouraging them to persist despite the challenges that lie ahead. The emphasis was on reaching out to those who have not yet been introduced to the gospel and spreading the light of faith to the unreached corners of the world.

Drawing from the story of Jonathan's courageous battle against the Philistines in 1 Samuel 13 and 14, Phetchareun shared a remarkable demonstration of his unwavering faith and commitment. Jonathan faced overwhelming odds, fighting a vast number of Philistines with meager resources. However, guided by his steadfast trust in God, Jonathan emerged victorious.

In the journey of faith, individuals often find themselves striving to improve, achieve more, and do great things for God. The diligent work on honing skills and talents, hoping that these abilities will enhance value in God's service. However, it's essential to recognize that God looks beyond mere abilities; He seeks commitment, willingness, and passion.

In the context of commitment, God desires an unwavering dedication to His purposes. Prioritizing one's relationship with Him above all else, commitment entails faithfulness and perseverance, even when faced with challenging circumstances. It involves making a conscious decision to live following God's will and follow His commandments. Commitment is the foundation of a thriving and enduring relationship with God.

Willingness, on the other hand, is characterized by an attitude of openness to obey God's call. It signifies receptiveness to His guidance and a readiness to step out of one's comfort zone when led in a new direction. God values the willingness to listen to His voice, respond to His call, and obey His commands. A willing heart demonstrates trust in God's plan and eagerness to play a role in its fulfillment.

Passion represents fervor, enthusiasm, and love for God and His work. It serves as the driving force behind one's service and dedication. Passionate individuals go above and beyond, offering their utmost for the glory of God. God finds delight in those who serve Him with zeal and enthusiasm, as it reflects a genuine love for Him and a deep desire to see His kingdom flourish.

It's crucial to internalize the profound truth that God's primary interest lies in the condition of hearts, rather than in skills or abilities. While skills are valuable tools for God's work, they remain secondary to the state of the heart. Skills can be developed and refined over time, but without a heart devoted to God, they lack genuine purpose. Even if someone possesses remarkable talents, their efforts may lack true significance if their heart is not aligned with God's will.

God desires to transform hearts, making them pure, loving, and obedient. When hearts are in the right place, skills become instruments for His glory, and service becomes a sincere act of worship.

Therefore, it is worthwhile to pause and reflect on one's own heart and motivations. Are skills and abilities offered to God with a heart full of commitment, willingness, and passion? Genuine fulfillment in the relationship with God comes when one focuses on developing these attributes, allowing God to work through them, and striving to honor Him in all endeavors.
