More than 500 individuals embraced Jesus through baptism on Saturday, January 4, 2025, marking a historic and spirit-filled start to the new year for the Adventist Church in Southern Mindanao, Philippines. The event, held at the newly established Adventist Training Center in Lake Sebu, was spearheaded by church districts in the region with significant involvement from church members, particularly those belonging to indigenous tribal groups such as the T’Boli, Manobos, B’Laans, and other minority communities.

The T’Boli people, an indigenous group known for their rich cultural heritage, vibrant music, intricate beadwork, and the handwoven T’nalak fabric, were joined by members of the Manobo and B’laan tribes, among others, in this momentous event. These communities, despite being deeply rooted in their traditions, have shown an openness to the gospel, paving the way for transformative encounters with Christ.

The baptismal ceremony was part of the district’s thanksgiving and fellowship program, which underscored the church’s mission to engage with and uplift communities through faith and service. Leaders from the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD) were present to witness and support this initiative. The leaders were in Southern Mindanao for a consultative meeting and leadership retreat, setting the tone for the church’s mission-focused activities for 2025.

Pastor Roger Caderma, president of the SSD, highlighted the significance of this milestone. “This is a testament to the power of God’s love working through His people. Seeing individuals from various indigenous tribes, including the T’Boli, Manobos, and B’Laans, come together in faith reminds us that the gospel transcends cultural and societal boundaries. This baptism demonstrates the church’s commitment to reach everyone with the message of salvation,” Pastor Caderma shared.

Pastor Nildo Mamac, president of the Southern Mindanao Mission, expressed his gratitude for the unity and dedication that made this event possible. “This is a beautiful beginning to the year 2025. The baptism of individuals from various indigenous groups is a reminder of the Holy Spirit’s work in bringing diverse people into one body of Christ. We praise God for the many hands and hearts that contributed to this incredible event,” Pastor Mamac said.

During the Sabbath worship service, Pastor Jacinto Adap, treasurer of the SSD, inspired attendees with a message centered on God’s faithfulness and the mission of the church. “The faithfulness of the Lord never wavers. Today’s baptism is a witness to His promise to transform lives. Let us continue to trust Him as we engage in His mission to share the gospel with every nation, tribe, and tongue,” Pastor Adap encouraged.

The newly established Adventist Training Center in Lake Sebu provided a picturesque and spiritually uplifting venue for this significant occasion. Nestled amidst the serene surroundings of Lake Sebu, the center serves as a testament to the Adventist Church’s commitment to nurturing faith and equipping its members for ministry.

This massive baptism not only underscores the dynamic growth of the Adventist Church in Southern Mindanao but also highlights the incredible openness of indigenous tribal groups to the gospel message. As the Adventist Church continues its mission in the region, this milestone event serves as a powerful reminder of the transformative power of God’s love and the church’s ongoing commitment to spreading hope and salvation to all.
