Financial leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in western Indonesia strengthened systems for managing church resources during a treasury evaluation conducted by the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD) from Aug. 6-7.
The evaluation came days after the Ministerial and Stewardship Convention, held July 28-Aug. 1 in Tangerang, Banten, Indonesia. The gathering brought church leaders together around ministry and stewardship, while the subsequent financial review turned attention to the administrative systems responsible for managing resources that help sustain those mission priorities.
The two-day evaluation at the West Indonesia Union Mission (WIUM) headquarters examined financial management practices and provided consultation and recommendations designed to strengthen accountability and ensure church resources effectively support mission.
The evaluation resulted in a “Very Satisfactory” rating for the union’s financial management. Leaders said the assessment affirmed progress already made while identifying areas where financial systems and practices can continue to improve.
For WIUM leaders, the review carried significance beyond financial performance. Careful management of church resources helps ministries and institutions fulfill their responsibilities while maintaining the trust of members whose contributions support the church’s work.
“We need to be grateful for every ministry we have carried out, but we should not become complacent because of a good result,” said Binsar Sagala, WIUM president.
“We must continue improving our financial ministry in managing every fund entrusted to us and supporting the proclamation of God’s truth through His church.”
Sagala said the favorable evaluation should serve as motivation for continued improvement rather than an endpoint.
The SSD evaluation team worked directly with WIUM treasury personnel to examine areas of financial management and discuss opportunities for strengthening existing practices.
The evaluation team included Angelina Pagarigan, SSD undertreasurer; Annie Velasco Asoy, SSD SunPlus director; Karen Gasapo, SSD assistant treasurer; Roni Maravilla, treasurer of the West Central Philippines Union Mission; and Leroy Ruhupatty, SSD associate Education director.
Beyond assessing current practices, the evaluation provided opportunities for consultation and professional learning. SSD representatives offered recommendations on areas requiring further development and discussed ways the union can strengthen its financial systems.
Organizers said the process sought to ensure that financial management fulfills not only administrative and accountability requirements but also the wider mission of the church.
That emphasis takes on added significance as the worldwide Adventist Church prepares for OneVoice27, a global movement designed to mobilize members, congregations, ministries and media platforms around a united, Christ-centered mission. The initiative will officially launch Sept. 5, 2026, with its major worldwide emphasis leading toward September 2027.
Although the treasury evaluation was part of the church’s regular financial oversight, stronger financial systems can help WIUM prepare for expanding mission opportunities associated with OneVoice27 and other initiatives. Sound budgeting, accurate reporting and responsible stewardship can help leaders determine where resources are needed and ensure that funding entrusted to the church supports ministry at the local level.
The evaluation also strengthened collaboration between SSD and WIUM as both organizations work to maintain sound financial practices across the church. Church leaders said recommendations from the evaluation will guide continued improvements in how WIUM manages resources entrusted to its care.
For western Indonesia, the sequence of the Ministerial and Stewardship Convention followed by the treasury evaluation highlighted two interconnected dimensions of mission: mobilizing people to serve and ensuring that the resources supporting their work are managed responsibly.
As preparations for OneVoice27 continue, that connection places stewardship alongside evangelism, discipleship and communication as part of the infrastructure needed for mission. The evaluation demonstrated how work often carried out behind the scenes — budgeting, reporting, accountability and financial planning — can help provide a stronger foundation for churches, institutions and members to carry the Adventist message into their communities and beyond.
