In a moment that will resonate throughout the global Seventh-day Adventist Church, delegates at the 62nd General Conference Session overwhelmingly voted to elect Pastor Erton Köhler as the new President of the General Conference, setting the tone for a new chapter of spiritual leadership until 2030.
A seasoned leader and passionate disciple-maker, Pastor Köhler assumes the highest office of the world church after previously serving as Executive Secretary of the General Conference and as President of the South American Division. His leadership has been marked by a deep commitment to evangelism, youth engagement, and organizational strength rooted in spiritual integrity.
Shortly after his election, Pastor Köhler addressed global media during a press conference and clearly articulated his vision: “Unity and mission will be our major focus.”
He explained that while administrative structures are important, the heartbeat of the Adventist Church is its shared commitment to the Great Commission. “We are not just a global organization—we are a spiritual family with one mission, one Savior, and one hope,” he emphasized.
Pastor Köhler acknowledged the challenges of diversity across regions, cultures, and contexts, but firmly stated that such diversity must never become a barrier to unity. “Unity is not uniformity—it is the Spirit-led harmony that makes our global witness powerful,” he said.
He also called on every church member to embrace personal involvement in mission: “This is not the mission of a few, but of all. The church does not move forward because of leadership alone, but because every member takes part in the mission of Christ.”
As the global church looks toward the next quinquennium, Köhler’s message resounds with clarity: the future of the Adventist movement depends on spiritual unity and faithful mission.
