Elders and Deacons Convention in Western Visayas Equips Church Leaders for Service Amidst Crises

In response to the growing global concerns that are causing significant confusion and anxiety, the 40th Elders and Deacons League (EDL) Convention of the Adventist Church in West Visayas organized a convention to encourage church leaders to be sources of hope and inspiration in their communities.

The convention was held in Bongco, Pototan, Iloilo, at the Adventist Academy Iloilo. This conference, held from April 5 to 8, 2023, aims to equip church leaders with the knowledge and skills they need to serve their respective congregations, particularly during challenging times. After several years of not having an annual gathering due to the pandemic, Edsel Jerez, acting EDL president, expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to come together and encourage one another.

This year's convention theme was "Amidst crises, I will go," emphasizing the importance of spreading the gospel message even in difficult and uncertain times.

The convention includes a variety of speakers and topics, such as devotionals, worship, an open forum, and more. Representatives from the Central Philippines Union office and the West Visayas headquarters were among the many speakers who shared their thoughts and expertise during the meeting.

Religious freedom, mental health, a healthy lifestyle, and church management were among the topics discussed at the convention.

The convention drew over 300 delegates, allowing church leaders and members to share and learn from one another's experiences and insights. Attendees praised the speakers' quality and the relevance of the topics covered. Pastor Agapito Catane Jr. encouraged the congregation to keep Jesus in mind as they prepare to face adversity and persecution during the hour of worship.

The convention concluded with a dedication prayer by Pastor Kerry C. Estrebilla, West Visayan Conference President, and a commitment service led by Pr. Fernando Narciso, CPUC Ministerial Secretary. In terms of preparing church leaders for service in the midst of the ongoing crisis, the convention was a huge success.
