Beyond Numbers: Stewardship and Faith Drive Mission Forward in Southern Asia-Pacific Division

Edward Rodriguez

The mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church has always been rooted in cooperation—where every resource, every plan, and every faithful giver contributes to one united goal: sharing the everlasting gospel. Within the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD), the Treasury Department continues to embody this spirit of integration for mission, ensuring that every dollar entrusted to God’s work strengthens the church’s capacity to reach souls and transform lives.

Faithful Stewardship Amid Changing Times

From 2020 to 2025, the faithfulness of God’s people across the SSD territory remains evident. Over these years, tithes recorded an average annual growth of 4.5%, reflecting steady spiritual commitment even amid global and regional challenges. In 2024, tithe contributions reached $107.3 million, and by September 2025, $79.6 million had already been recorded. Offerings likewise remained strong, with $32.8 million in 2024 and $23.4 million by mid-2025, showing that members continue to give generously from grateful hearts. These figures reflect not only consistent giving but also a deepening understanding among members that stewardship is an act of worship—an integrated expression of faith that advances the mission of the Church.

The Generosity Index, which rose remarkably from 16% in 2020 to 29% by September 2025, underscores a profound spiritual revival in giving across the Southern Asia-Pacific Division. This upward trend reflected an annual increase in the tithes and offerings is a testament to the faithfulness of members who view their resources as sacred instruments for mission. This growth stems from members’ deeper understanding of biblical stewardship—a heartfelt response of worship through giving. To strengthen this, the SSD, in collaboration with unions and local fields, allocated $500,000 to support stewardship directors and training initiatives across the territory. This program aims to nurture faithful giving and deepen members’ dependence on God as their Creator and Sustainer.

Integrating Resources for Holistic Mission

The SSD Financial operations demonstrate how financial management and mission integration go hand in hand. The General Conference recognized the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD) as one of the strong divisions worldwide, citing its faithful stewardship and mission focus.

In response to the trust placed by the General Conference, the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD) has remained committed to faithful and transparent resource distribution. From 2021 to 2025, SSD disbursed an average of 117% more to the field than the appropriations received, including 223% by August 2025. Each year, over $5 million in appropriations have supported evangelism, leadership development, and infrastructure projects, ensuring that every resource is prayerfully directed to advance the mission throughout the territory.

These appropriations flow beyond institutional levels, reaching local churches where mission truly happens—supporting frontline ministries, evangelistic campaigns, and community outreach programs.

In 2024 and 2025, appropriations for evangelism rose significantly from $1 million annually to $3.17 million—a clear reflection of SSD’s focus on soul-winning and in its ongoing Harvest 2025 initiative. This amount includes the Financial Assistance from the General Conference amounting to $500,000.

Similarly, the Mission Refocus initiative received an allocation of $252,000 coming from the unions, enabling the Division to send 18 missionaries to various fields around the world from 2024 to the present.

This initiative embodies the Division’s commitment to global collaboration, ensuring that financial resources are not only managed wisely but are also strategically invested in people who carry the message of hope and salvation to the nations.

SSD maintained its working capital and liquidity well beyond the minimum requirements, a clear indication of active resource deployment and responsible stewardship.

By actively mobilizing its resources for mission, the Division made a purposeful choice to direct funds where they matter most—on the frontlines of evangelism and down to the grassroots level. This intentional approach ensures that every financial decision contributes to advancing the gospel in tangible ways.

Strengthening Foundations for Ministry

Under developments, more than $5.8 million has been allocated to initiatives that strengthen Adventist institutions and facilities within the territory. Major projects include the $4.25 million land acquisition, $650,000 for housing, and $421,500 for the Lake Sebu Adventist Training Center—a hub designed to nurture leadership and discipleship among local workers.

The Life Hope Center, one of the major infrastructure projects of the Division, has become a living testament to the Church’s integrated mission. In the past year, it sponsored eight major evangelistic initiatives and launched 12 community engagement programs, fulfilling its purpose as a center of hope and compassion that reflects God’s presence in the region. Through its programs, the facility not only strengthens evangelistic outreach but also connects the Church with surrounding communities—transforming faith into action and mission into everyday ministry.

These infrastructure investments reflect an integrated vision—where the church’s physical growth supports its spiritual mission.

Among these projects is the establishment of the Adventist Heritage Village at Mountain View College, a landmark initiative that received an initial funding allocation of USD 500,000 and is planned to begin operations by 2028 with its first set of buildings. As the work progresses, additional heritage structures will be developed, expanding the site’s capacity and impact. Once fully completed by 2030, this center will serve as a lasting monument to the beginnings of the Adventist movement, established in collaboration with Mountain View College, which generously provided 10 hectares of land for its construction.

Empowering People Through Training

Integration also extends to people development. The SSD spent $711,500 from 2023 to 2025 in training programs such as the Leadership Summit 2023, Back to the Altar initiative, and the Division-Wide Treasury Spiritual Summit. These gatherings cultivated spiritual leadership and strengthened faith-driven financial management across unions, missions, and institutions.

The emphasis on spiritual leadership—particularly through retreats for finance officers—highlights that stewardship is not just about numbers, but about nurturing leaders that serve Christ with excellence and humility.

Beyond Borders: Global Integration for Mission

SSD has not confined its support within its territory. Through $195,000 in assistance to other divisions, the SSD extended its hand to missions in Greece, Ethiopia, and Israel—funding the Greece Media Center, Ethiopian College, Southeast Ethiopia Field, and the Center of Influence in Israel. These contributions demonstrate SSD’s commitment to the global church family, echoing the Adventist call that “the work of God on earth will never be finished until the men and women comprising our church unite their efforts.”

By investing in these fields, the Division fulfills its role as both a steward and a sender—partnering with others to bring light to places where Christ’s message is yet to be fully known.

As the Southern Asia-Pacific Division moves into 2026, the Treasury Department remains committed to strengthening its role in the REAPS initiatives, ensuring that every financial strategy continues to serve the mission. The coming year will emphasize growth in leadership through the Leadership Summit scheduled for March 2–8 in Bangkok, a gathering designed to cultivate spiritually grounded and mission-driven leaders across all fields. In addition, a Ministerial Conference focused on Stewardship Education will bring together pastors, treasurers, and departmental leaders to deepen their understanding of biblical stewardship and financial faithfulness.

These initiatives reflect the Division’s vision to integrate leadership development and stewardship education—empowering both workers and members to become faithful partners in sustaining God’s mission in the Southern Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

Conclusion: One Mission, One Movement

The SSD Financial Report is more than a collection of numbers—it is a testimony of unity, faith, and intentional stewardship. Each dollar received, managed, and disbursed represents a life touched, a church built, a worker trained, or a mission field reached.

Amid global challenges and economic shifts, the Southern Asia-Pacific Division continues to uphold its theme, “Integrated for Mission.” Through united leadership, collaborative departments, and the faithful giving of members, every resource entrusted to God becomes a channel of His grace in advancing the gospel worldwide.
