“Affirming” Devotional to Inspire Daily Commitment to Adventist Faith and Mission

Edward Rodriguez

The Administrative Committee of the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD) has approved the development and publication of a new devotional book titled “Affirming: A Daily Devotional on Adventist Identity and Mission.” The initiative aims to deepen the faith of members and reinforce their understanding of the church’s biblical foundations, prophetic heritage, and mission purpose.

The devotional, set for publication in 2027, will feature daily reflections designed to nurture a stronger sense of Adventist identity and inspire members to live mission-focused lives. It will serve as a practical and accessible resource for individuals, families, and institutions across the division.

According to the recommendation, the project will be coordinated by the Office of the Field Secretary in collaboration with the Publishing Ministries Department, the Ministerial Association, and the Biblical Research Committee. The Philippine Publishing House (PPH) will serve as the production partner, ensuring both print and digital versions are available for wide distribution.

“This devotional seeks to affirm who we are as a people of hope and mission,” the committee noted. “It will remind every member that the Seventh-day Adventist Church is a Bible-based, mission-driven movement raised by God to proclaim the everlasting gospel and the three angels’ messages to all the world.”

Purpose and Objectives

The Affirming devotional will have four main objectives:

  • To reaffirm and strengthen Adventist identity through Scripture-based reflections that highlight biblical faith and prophetic heritage.

  • To inspire mission-focused living by connecting daily devotion to evangelism and service.

  • To provide a devotional resource for individuals, families, and institutions throughout the SSD.

  • To involve diverse contributors, including pastors, theologians, educators, and lay writers from across the division.

The writing phase is planned for 2026, which will include content development, editing, and layout preparation. The project aligns with the SSD’s quinquennium theme emphasizing Adventist identity and mission renewal.

Collaboration and Development

The project will engage representatives from across the 11 countries of the SSD territory. A series of writers’ onboarding and stylistics workshops will be organized to ensure consistency in message, theological integrity, and writing style.

The Field Secretary’s Office, in partnership with PPH, will form an editorial committee to oversee the development of content guidelines and ensure the devotional reflects the division’s commitment to biblical truth and missional purpose. Notably, the printing cost will come at no expense to the SSD, reflecting effective stewardship and partnership within the organization.

Strengthening Mission Through Reflection

Leaders believe that Affirming: A Daily Devotional on Adventist Identity and Mission will not only serve as a tool for daily reflection but also as a reminder of the church’s call to proclaim Christ’s soon return.

The publication is envisioned to become a spiritual companion for every Adventist home, encouraging members to reaffirm their faith and actively participate in God’s redemptive work across the Southern Asia-Pacific region.
