      Amid ongoing political uncertainty and social tensions across Myanmar, a quiet yet powerful movement of hope continues to unfold—one conversation, one relationship, and one act of faith at a time.

      On March 11, 2026, the Adventist Church in Myanmar (MYUM) took a historic step forward by hosting its first-ever Adventist-Muslim Friendship meeting in Mandalay, marking a significant milestone in its expanding mission outreach.

      While much of the country continues to experience unrest, church leaders and members remain steadfast in their mission to share hope in challenging environments. This initiative highlights a growing commitment to continue God’s work even amid uncertainty, demonstrating that mission does not pause in times of difficulty.

      The gathering represents a notable shift in Myanmar’s religious engagement landscape. Traditionally, Christian mission efforts in the country have focused largely on Buddhist communities and various ethnic groups. This new initiative, however, reflects an intentional effort to build bridges with the Muslim community through respectful dialogue and relationship-building.

      The event was made possible through a collaborative effort between the Adventist-Muslim Relations (AMR) initiative of the Adventist Church in the Southern Asia-Pacific region and MYUM. Church leaders, mission directors, and local coordinators worked together to ensure that the gathering reflected unity in purpose and sensitivity in approach.

      Leaders from the local mission field, along with representatives from the Mandalay church and supporting lay members, played an active role in organizing and facilitating the meeting. Their collective efforts demonstrated a shared vision of fostering peace and understanding across faith communities.

      Held in the historic city of Mandalay, the meeting served as both an introduction and a gesture of goodwill. Organizers intentionally scheduled the gathering during the Ramadan season and refrained from serving meals in respect of their Muslim guests’ time of fasting. This thoughtful consideration helped cultivate an atmosphere of mutual respect and openness.

      Several respected Muslim community leaders attended the meeting, signaling a shared willingness to pursue dialogue and peaceful coexistence. Conversations throughout the gathering reflected sincerity, warmth, and a growing sense of trust—essential elements in building lasting relationships.

      Organizers emphasized that this effort goes beyond a single event. It marks the beginning of a long-term commitment to engage in meaningful conversations, share life experiences, and promote harmony within diverse communities. Such initiatives also create opportunities for acts of kindness and deeper understanding.

      Looking ahead, MYUM plans to continue strengthening these relationships by fostering dialogue around shared values such as health and compassionate living, encouraging intentional prayer for Muslim communities, and exploring collaborative service initiatives that reflect Christ’s love in practical ways.

      As the church continues its mission in Myanmar, leaders remain hopeful that even in times of uncertainty, God continues to open doors for ministry. Through simple acts of respect, friendship, and presence, the message of hope reaches hearts and communities.

      The Adventist Church in Myanmar invites the global church family to pray for this growing work, especially for those serving on the frontlines of mission, as they continue to build bridges and share the light of Christ in meaningful and transformative ways.
