From September 30 to October 2, 2024, Khon Kaen Church in Thailand hosted a transformative seminar titled “Making Disciples.” Organized by the Adventist Church in Thailand, the Ministerial and Communication departments spearheaded the event aimed to equip pastors and church leaders with essential skills and insights to advance discipleship efforts within their communities, especially in challenging areas within the 10/40 window.

The seminar was graced by two resource speakers from the Adventist Church in Southeast Asia, namely Pastor Tran Quoc Khoi, Communication Director, and Pastor Lim Pheng, Ministerial Director. Each shared unique and helpful insights and practical teachings that resonated deeply with participants.

Pastor Khoi opened the seminar with a session on leveraging social media and effective church branding to extend the church’s reach. He challenged participants with a thought-provoking question: “Are you simply a church member, or are you a true disciple of Jesus?” Emphasizing that a sense of belonging is foundational, he encouraged attendees to create environments that promote community as a basis for discipleship.

Throughout his presentation, Pastor Khoi shared practical strategies for enhancing churches' online presence, encouraging leaders to engage both members and newcomers meaningfully. His approach inspired attendees to think creatively about their outreach efforts in a digital age.

Pastor Lim Pheng delivered a powerful message on “The Way Back to the Altar” on day two. He urged pastors and church leaders to prioritize their spiritual growth through consistent morning and evening worship practices. “The ‘Way Back to the Altar’ initiative aims to establish a daily, habitual practice of worship,” he reminded, stressing the importance of spiritual grounding in effective discipleship.

Pastor Lim also addressed the significance of building relationships with Buddhist neighbors, advocating for an understanding of their worldview to communicate the gospel more effectively. His insights on “Communicating Christ Effectively in the Thai Buddhist Context” offered participants a framework for respectful dialogue and faith-sharing that is both impactful and culturally sensitive.

Attendees were encouraged to amplify what they have learned and to have an opportunity to apply it in their daily conversations and interactions within their communities. Participants left with a renewed commitment to making disciples in their communities.

Khon Kaen Church extends gratitude to all who attended and contributed to the seminar’s success. Through collaborative efforts and a focus on discipleship, the church aims to strengthen its community presence, share the love of Jesus, and foster a culture of intentional, transformative outreach.
